UTN Strengthens International Collaboration Through STARS Project Meeting in Ecuador

Universidad Técnica del Norte (UTN) participated in an international meeting of the STARS project — Spatial Tools for Assessing Risks in Sudden Natural Hazards — in Ecuador, bringing together academic and research institutions from Ecuador, Colombia, and Europe.

As part of the STARS project, MSc. Gabriel Jácome, lecturer and researcher at Universidad Técnica del Norte (UTN), took part in the meeting organized to welcome the delegation of European universities involved in the initiative.

The event brought together STARS project partners from Ecuador and Colombia with their European counterparts, creating an opportunity for institutional exchange, collaboration, and discussion around the project's objectives and areas of research.
As part of the meeting's agenda, the international delegation visited Santa Elena Province, where participants gained first-hand insight into the territory and the natural hazards affecting Ecuador.
The field visit provided an opportunity to better understand the local context addressed by the STARS project while encouraging the exchange of experiences and knowledge among participating universities and research institutions.

UTN's participation in the STARS project highlights the university's engagement in international academic and scientific cooperation, particularly in areas related to natural hazard risk management, geospatial technologies, and spatial analysis.

Through initiatives such as STARS, UTN continues to strengthen connections with international research networks and contribute to collaborative approaches for understanding and addressing natural hazards.
